We carry All kinds of mountain bikes.  We love 'em all, and we'd have one of every kind if we could!

There are so many different kinds of mountain biking these days, I hardly know where to begin.  Not only that, but there are also so many divisions within each individual category, it can get very confusing.  There are single-speeds and multi-speed bikes, hard-tails and soft-tails, and full rigid bikes and full squishers.  Further still, there are now three different wheel sizes to consider when selecting a mountain bike; but we'll come back to that later.

But basically, despite all the choices to be made, picking a mountain bike that suits you is really not that hard; especially whenever you come and see us about it.  We are here to ask the right questions, and give you the right answers; and, honestly, we really enjoy it.

We carry as many different kinds of mountain bikes as possible in order to cover all the different aspects of trail riding today.  The bike companies we have chosen to best serve our customers are some of the best in the business, even if they may not be the biggest.  If you stop in and talk to us a little bit, we think its plain as day to see why.

JAMIS BICYCLES  Go to Jamis Bikes on Our Page
We love Jamis Bicycles, and the majority of the bikes in our shop are from the Jamis line-up.  Through just one great company we are nearly able to satisfy all of our customers needs.  Jamis is led by CEO and President Carine Joannou, who took over the company from her father in 1981.  She and Greg Webber, Vice President of Product Design, have been working together successfully for the last 21 years, and to tell the truth; they've really got these bikes dialed in!

Their experience and success in the industry becomes evident when you test ride their bikes- because they just feel amazing.  Not to mention, GJC is now one of the oldest, largest bicycle companies still under original family ownership in America.  Jamis makes quality bicycles in every price range for every type of rider.  It doesn't matter what your budget is, or what level of riding you do, Jamis has a bike for you, and we're here to help you find it.

GUNNAR CYCLES  Go to Gunnar Cycles on Our Site
We are also a Gunnar Cycles dealer.  Gunnar is an small, low-production American company who specializes in handmade custom and full custom bicycles made only out of heat-treated, air-hardened Reynolds 853 steel.  A Gunnar bicycle is more than just a bicycle; it more a realization of a dream.  We have a couple of beautiful Gunnars on the sales floor, and we invite you to check them out.  Gunnars are actually made in the same shop as Waterfords, which are ultra-high-end full custom road bikes made by the descendants of the old Schwinn lineage.  In our humble opinion, a Gunnar may be one the best steel frames you can buy today, anywhere.

SURLY BIKES
Go to Surly Bikes on Our Page
Surly is another great company that we carry here in our store.  Surly's are all made out of steel, and boast a simplistic, thoughtful design while offering a host of customization options.  They are perhaps best known for their ability to accomodate very fat tires.  Their slogan, "Fatties Fit Fine" is ubiquitous among cycling communities everywhere.  In fact, just recently, Surly has been popularizing the notion of the Omniterra, or Fatbike, which boasts 3-4" wide tires, suitable for riding anywhere and everywhere.  Surly offers completes, or frames for custom builds. Surly's are great!  Anyone who ever owns a Surly, loves it.

Jamis Bikes has an outstanding 2012 Mountain bike line-up.  Scroll down and see what interests you.  There are bikes available to do any type of off-road riding you wish.  Please bear in mind, this is NOT all of Jamis's bikes, just a sampling of their line-up, in our own words.

There are entry-level All-terrain-bikes and advanced level Mountain-bikes for all types of riders and skill levels.  We've done our best to be helpful, please see Jamis's website for more information.  The images we've provided below are also links straight to the Jamis webpage for each particular model for your convenience.

The Jamis Trail X Series
Entry-level ATB
The Trail X series are entry level mountain bikes suitable for light trail riding and perfect for all round urban riding.  Slightly more upright geometry relieves strain on the neck and back while providing an excellent field of vision while commuting.  The handling characteristics of this line-up tend more toward stabilty and comfort than outright aggressive trail handling.  The Trail X series is also availbale in female specific frame sizes.
The Trail X series bikes are always in stock here at Eddie's.  If you're looking for one of these bikes, there's a high probability we'll have a bike here for you in your size.

Jamis Durango Series
Advanced-level MTB
Jamis's do-it-all, most versatile mountain bike for the casual weekend warrior or the die-hard, dirt junkie...this bike will do it all very well.  An awesome frame; strong and durable, built with performance in mind rather than all-out speed; the handling characteristics of the Durangos inspire confidence at every turn.  Entry-level riders looking to up their game, will be very pleased with the Durango's comfortable ride and ability to throw down when necessary.
There are always a few Durangos in stock here at Eddies.
  • Durango Race                    $1,200    Brushed Aluminum

Jamis Exile Series
 Aluminum 29er MTB Hard-tails
The Exile has been a best seller for us here at Eddie's this past year, as more riders discovered the benefits of 29-inch wheels, and the dialed-in feel of the Exile's tweaked-and-tuned geometry.   29" wheels hold their momentum like a runaway freight train, and roll over roots and rocks like a monster truck.  They are a big advantage over 26" wheels when riding over the rocks you'll find in Rothrock State Forest.
We usually always have a size run in the Exile series, it is one of our best-selling bikes.
  • Exile Race     $1,575   Brushed Nickel  Kinesis Super-light, trip-butted 7005 Alum.
  • Exile Comp   $1,100   Scorched Earth  7005 double-butted Alum.
  • Exile Sport    $700    Midnight Blue, Gloss BLack   7005 double-butted Alum.
The Exile series recieved some serious upgrades for 2012:  a re-designed frame w/ tapered headtube, and a box-shaped/S-bend down tube, and ribbed top tube with integrated seat mast beam to support the extra long 400mm seat posts every Exile is equipped with.

Jamis Dragon Series
Classic Steel Hard-tail MTB
All Wheel Sizes:  26"(frame only)  27.5"(650B)  29"
The fabled Jamis Dragon.  The amazing frame platform that helped establish Jamis as a contender in the early days of the sport.  Why?  Well, the Dragon frames are all made out of heat-treated, air hardened Reynolds steel.  This high quality steel has a lower strength to weight ratio than others, which means your frame is not only strong, but also very lightweight; which is nice.

Steel has a superb ride quality; it absorbs vibrations that can make you uncomfortable, and it can absorb your energy and send it back at you, helping you shoot through turns and over rock gardens.  It flexes, giving you an all-day-long comfortable ride regardless of the terrain.  Unlike other materials when they're welded, air-hardened, heat treated Reynolds steel actually gets stronger at the joints where its welded, creating a really strong weld and great riding frame.  Dragons have always been fast, with finely tuned geometry that maximizes traction, handling and performance in every situation.

The Dragon frame is availble in all three wheel sizes, too!  You can have a Dragon with 26" wheels, 29" wheels, and now 27.5", or 650B wheels!  You can even get a 29er single speed Dragon, the Dragon One, which comes only as a frame.

The 650B wheel size is promising to have the advantages of a biggerand smaller wheel without the disadvantages of either size.  So far, 650B's have gotten really great reviews, and we absolutely love them, and we are firm believers in the platform.
But don't take our word for it, read this great article by MountainBikeAction magazine, just click the link below:

    • the Dragon 650B is totally new for 2012.  Arguably the nicest steel hardtail 650B bike available today!  The Dragon 650B is a Trail bike; suitable for light all-mountain riding or all day long XC rides.  Slack geometry and nimble handling characterize this beautiful bike, should be the perfect for flowy, singletrack rides around State College.
    • 15QR front axle, 120mm of White Brothers travel, Shimano SLX 3x10sp drivetrain, and an American Classic wheelset adorn this gorgeous 26.5lb bike.

Nemesis 650B
XC Competition MTB
The Nemesis 650B is a whole new animal.  A Kinesis 7005 trip. butted Aluminum 650B hardtail with race geometry, a tapered steerer on a XFusion Velvet 100mm fork, and BB30 PressFit bottom bracket, running SRAM 2x10sp drivetrain, and stopping with Avid Elixir 1 hydraulic disc brakes.  This rig is at the forefront of an awful lot of awesome new technology, no to mention a whole new wheel platform.

650B wheels are pretty much here to stay now, in our opinion, and we're damn glad Jamis had the vision and guts to do it first.  650B wheels are not too big, not too small, but just right...you won't even notice your wheels when you are riding, which is how its supposed to be...just focussed on riding and shredding.
  • Nemesis 650B   $1,650   Agent Orange
    • Ready-to-Race, all you need to do is select some pedals.
    • Weight: 27lb.

Dakar 650B
MTB 650B Full-suspension
The Dakar 650B series was Jamis's first foray into the 650B wheel platform, and it met with a lot of success, which is probably why they tried the hard-tails this year.  The 650B wheel size works very well with full-suspension designs since the wheels are a little more manageable.  The frame design is very well done: asymmetrical chainstays, MP4 linkage design, tapered headtube, cartridge bearing pivots, 130mm front travel, and a rear thru-axle.  Designed to swallow up difficult sections of trail smoothly and efficiently.  This All-mountain bike will be sure to make you grin from ear to ear.
  • Dakar 650B Pro        $4,800     Brushed Nickel
  • Dakar 650B Comp    $2,700    Ano Black
Dakar 650B Comp

Dakar XC Sport/ Comp
Full-suspension Competition XC
The Dakar XC Sport is a lot of bike for the money.  Proven MP2 full-suspension, multi-link frame design with near vertical wheel travel path, asymmetrical chainstays for improved stiffness while descending, or pedaling like a Boss.  This bike performs very well in mulit-conditon riding, lots of traction through the rocky stuff without jarring its rider, and the 7005 aluminum frame is strong and lightweight.
**The 2011 model is pictured here on the right, since we have one in stock with a 19" complete on closeout for only $925 (Orig. $1000)
  • Dakar XC Comp   $1,700  Palladium Silver/ Pearl White

Dakar XCR 29
MTB 29 Cross Country Race
Jamis finally caved and made two full-suspension 29ers this year, and these bikes are fully loaded!  It might be wise to check these bikes out on Jamis's website by clicking the link to the right.  Jamis's website will do a far better job explaining these bikes than we can on our site.  One thing worth noting: XCR means Cross-Country-Race, and Jamis never uses that term loosely.  These bikes are meant to go fast and go far.
  • Dakar XCR 29 Pro     $5,100     Monterey Red/ Carbon   Carbon Fiber frame
  • Dakar XCR 29 Race   $3,200    Pearl White/ Gloss Black  Aluminum frame
Dakar XCR 29 Pro

Dakar XCT Series
MTB 26 Full-suspension
The show stopper this year, according to our outside sales rep., was this bike.  The XCT delivers 5" of active, plush rear travel.  The 12mm Maxle stiffens things up in the rear, while a 15mm thru-axle keeps the front wheel under control.  The suspension design has been tweaked to provide a very plush ride without bottoming out.  Tapered headtubes and asymmetrical chainstays on each model.  These bikes are big hit bikes that could potentially carry you effortlessly on an all-day XC ride.  Perfect for Enduro racing.
  • Dakar XCT Pro      $5,000   Palladium Silver/ Pearl White
  • Dakar XCT Comp   $3,200   Dark Chocolate / Pearl White
  • Dakar XCT Sport    $2,300   Black Coal/ Pearl White
Dakar XCT Pro

Dakar BAM
All Mountain MTB

The BAM is the bike you want for riding down mountains that would rip other bikes apart.  It's 8" of travel make it an ideal choice for Downhill Mountain bike parks.  At 42lbs, its not a cross-country bike, more of a shuttle-run bike.  Made for going downhill, very fast, through the worst possible terrain imagineable all while keeping a grin on your face ear to ear.
Only one model to choose from...
  • Dakar BAM     $3,500   Ano Black
Dakar BAM

Dakar AMT
All Mountain MTB

The AMT is a lot like the BAM going downhill, fast and furious, but its definitely going to be a much better climber.  Much less weight to carry, makes this all-mountain rig very appealing...Enduro racing anyone?  Its got all the bells and whistles popular on all-mountain rigs today; follow the link to the right, check out the specs on Jamis's website!

Surly Bikes are 4130 Steel simplicity.  Durable, strong, and loaded with possiblities.  We are proud to have the Surly Brand in our shop.
the Troll- One very Versatile Bike
The Surly Troll can do quite an awful lot, and that's why we like it so much.  It can be made into a mountain bike, an adventure touring rig, or maybe just a commuter.  It can run slick tires, or 26"x 2.7 knobbies!  It can be built with 26" wheels, or 650B wheels; you can even run 700c wheels, if you want to get weird.  Stop yourself with V-brakes, Canti's, or Disc brakes.  Run it geared or singlespeed, or even an internally geared hub (IGH).  The Troll even has built in frame mounts for a Rohloff IGH.  It accomodates the Surly trailers, and you can run racks and fenders with no problems.  You could change this bike into something different everyday, if ya wanted to, and that's why it is awesome.  If you can't make up your mind about a bike, then Don't; buy this one, and do whatever you want.

the Venerable Surly 1x1
The Surly 1x1 goes way back, and has only gotten better with age.  It is basically the same frame as the Troll above, with just a few less options, and it only comes as a frame.  Simply put, you can't run gears, there's no derailleur hanger, and no Rohloff mounts either.  But anything else you wanna do, go ahead.  Run different size wheels, because this frame handles awesome with 26" or 650B wheels.  Or, a 650B up front, and 26" in the rear.  Maybe a 29er up front, and 650B in the rear.  Run the fattest tires you can find!  Possiblities abound.  It just has to be a singlespeed, but you can cheat with an internally geared hub, if ya want.  Gimme a call if you're interested in this frame, because I love talking about it.  I own one, and its simply one of the nicest handling frames I have ever had the pleasure of riding.  My 1x1 has a 650B front wheel, 26" rear, and a 120mm XFusion suspension fork with 32/18 gearing...it rips.  Stop in, and I'll let ya test ride it.
1x1  Frame/Fork Only...$485

the Legendary Karate Monkey
Ok, legendary might be taking things a little far, but the Karate Monkey boasts being one of the first production 29ers, which is a very large claim to fame given the state of 29ers in the industry today! Anyways, the Karate Monkey, besides having a cool name, has a lot cool features too.  Run it geared, or singlespeed, or with an internally geared hub.  Rigid, or front suspension.  Singletrack slayer, or urabnized commuter.  Run racks or fenders, if ya want.  Maybe you want to run it as a fixed gear monster cross, even?  Again, you are limited only by your imagination, and maybe your wallet.  Fortunately, despite how much it rips and shredds, the Karate Monkey won't break the bank.
Karate Monkey Complete...$1,120  Frame/Fork Only...$475

the Ogre
So, the Ogre is a lot like the Karate Monkey, except loaded with more options. Lots of options for brakes, drivetrains, load carrying capabilities, and accessory upgrades like fenders, racks, and trailers.  It's basically the Troll's bigger brother, and that's what Surly says, too.  So, if you like the idea of the Karate Monkey, but you want more options, then the Ogre is your bike.
Ogre Complete...$1,499  Frame/Fork Only...$535

the Moonlander
The Fat Tire Revolution has begun!  Surly started making these ridiculous fat tire bikes for riding any terrain imagineable, hence the name, Omni-terra.  Go places you never thought possible.  Ride through snow and ice.  Ride over a sandy beach, or a dried out creek bed, or maybe just ride through the woods and make up your own trail as you go.  Do whatever you want, because those big fat tires are great for doing it all!  Perfect for rocky singletrack, or wide open, grassy fields...are you starting to get the picture here?  Basically, the Moonlander has the widest rims available, so your fat tires will get even fatter.
Moonlander Complete...$2,350   Frame/Fork Only...$700

the Pugsley
The Puglsley started the Fat Tire Revolution!  The rims are just slightly narrower than the Moonlander's rims, but its definitely still FAT.  The fat bikes boast being capable of going where normal all-terrain bikes cannot go.  Or, maybe, you want to ride the same old trails, but do it a little differently next time, then the Pugsley is your answer.  Its full suspension, of the pneumatic variety, and its pretty darn sweeet.  If you are interested in these bikes, then check out Surly's website through the link provided to the right...you'll find the answers to all your questions on Surly's really informative website.
Pugsley Complete...$1,650    Frame/Fork Only...$575
